Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin: Our First Year

A year of creativity, connection and community

Here are some highlights from the first year of Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin. From growing and creating together, to storytelling, music, wellbeing sessions and community gatherings, it has been a year full of connection, learning and shared moments.

Breathe Creative Anadl has completed the first year of our three-year programme, Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Based in Cardiff and working across South Wales our programme delivers regular arts and nature-based wellbeing sessions for adults, young people, and families.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far…

The first year of Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin has shown the powerful impact that creativity, nature and community connection can have on people’s wellbeing.

Across all areas of the programme, we have seen people develop confidence, build relationships, rediscover creativity, learn new skills and find a stronger sense of belonging. From hospital wards and community venues to our allotment spaces and online groups, people have found opportunities to connect, contribute and feel valued.

At the heart of the programme is the belief that everyone has strengths, experiences and creativity to share. Our role is to create the conditions where people feel safe enough to explore those strengths, build relationships and take ownership of their own journeys.

The first year has also demonstrated the importance of community resilience. Through challenges such as the flooding of our allotment space, we saw people come together to support one another and rebuild. This strengthened our understanding that the spaces we create are not just physical places or activities; they are communities built on trust, kindness and shared responsibility.

The relationships developed through Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin have extended far beyond individual projects. Participants have become volunteers, performers, storytellers, growers, artists and community contributors. Partners have joined together to create new opportunities, connecting creativity, health, nature and wellbeing across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

One participant reflected:

“No matter where we all come from, we can all find common ground.”

This quote captures the heart of the programme. Common Ground – Tir Cyffredin is about creating spaces where differences are respected, people feel welcomed, and everyone has the opportunity to participate and belong.

As we move into year two, we will continue to build on these foundations, developing stronger partnerships, expanding opportunities for creativity and nature connection, and supporting communities to grow together.

The first year has shown that when people are given time, trust and space to connect, meaningful change can grow.
